Liam Murphy

Liam is a counsel in Ogier Guernsey's corporate and funds team. Liam has a broad corporate and finance practice and advises on complex cross-border mergers and acquisitions, disposals, equity and debt capital markets transactions and regulatory matters.

Background and experience

Liam advises on fund formation, acquisitions, disposals, restructurings, consortium and joint venture arrangements, venture capital investments, management incentive schemes as well as ongoing corporate and regulatory matters. He has advised extensively on equity and debt capital markets transactions including conventional and SPAC IPOs, as well as de-SPAC transactions. He maintains a particular interest in family office and single investor structures. 

Liam started his career as an associate with international firm Cleary Gottlieb in London before joining the London office of Akin Gump. He advised the equity investment function in-house at Fidelity International, also in London, and then moved to Dubai in a senior legal counsel role at a multi-billion dollar single family office. Liam then returned to private practice joining the Cayman Islands corporate team of a leading offshore firm, and spent some time in Dublin in a senior knowledge role advising the transactional team at one of Ireland's leading law firms.

Liam read law at the University of Oxford, graduating in 2007, and completed his LPC at BBP in London in 2008. Liam, who is half Brazilian, grew up in São Paulo, Brazil and is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.
