Joseph Barker-Willis

Joseph advises on a wide range of investment funds, corporate and digital assets, blockchain and FinTech transactions. He has considerable experience in the offshore legal profession as a lawyer in Jersey in the Channel Islands since 2015 and in the Cayman Islands since 2022.

Background and experience

Joseph specialises in investment funds, advising on a wide range of transactions, including pioneering investment funds and novel asset classes involving FinTech, film finance and digital assets, as well as more typical fund structures in the venture capital, private equity and real estate sectors.

Joseph was a founding member of Jersey's Digital Assets Working Group, working with government, the local regulator and industry in response to the opportunities and challenges posed by FinTech, blockchain and digital assets offshore.

Joseph also has experience advising ESG, sustainable investing and impact investment funds, including in respect of renewable energy, wildlife conservation and related disclosure requirements.

Prior to joining Ogier, Joseph trained in the United Kingdom and practised in the investment funds and corporate teams of other market leading law firms in the Channel Islands and the Cayman Islands.

Joseph is also a visiting professional tutor at the Cayman Islands Law School teaching on the Professional Practice Course (voluntary role), supporting the next generation of Caymanian lawyers

Joseph is a graduate of University College, Durham and is a member of the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association and the Law Society of England and Wales.
