Two Ogier partners named in top ten offshore lawyer list for Hong Kong

Ogier partners Nicholas Plowman and Anthony Oakes have been named in the top ten offshore lawyers in Hong Kong in Asian Legal Business' Offshore Client Choice List 2017.

Nicholas, who leads the firm's Hong Kong office and its investment funds team, and Anthony, who leads Ogier's Asian finance team, have both been included in the list for the second year running, and no firm had more lawyers included in the list than Ogier.

The citation in the list noted that Ogier's team in Hong Kong grew by 40% over the last 12 months, fuelled by significant growth in instructions both from the city and mainland China, and that the firm has a significant Cayman and BVI investment funds and venture capital practice. The citation also noted that Ogier has a strong tam of Mandarin-speaking lawyers, including Anthony.

Nicholas said: "At a time when our strategic growth in the region is continuing, it is particularly pleasing to see this kind of recognition, which reflects the dedication and expertise of the team.

"We see positive signs towards sustained growth not just from the PRC but also for asset management work in Japan, and our busy dispute resolution and restructuring and insolvency practice has a healthy pipeline of work."

In the last few months, Nicholas has advised on the high profile launch of funds by Vanhau Asset Management Limited in one of the first launches to use the new Cayman Islands LLC structure, and Anthony has advised on the US$1 billion Lenovo Perpetual Security issue, an innovative capital markets transaction, structured as a preference share.

Ogier's Hong Kong team is led by seven partners with 27 lawyers in total, with partner-led service lines providing advice on BVI, Cayman and Jersey law.

The Hong Kong practice works closely with the teams in BVI, Cayman, Guernsey, Jersey, Luxembourg, Shanghai and Tokyo.
