Ogier's intellectual property expertise has been recognised again in retaining its place as a recommended firm in the World Trademarks Review's rankings for pan-Caribbean trade marks.
Partner Sophie Peat, who leads Ogier's intellectual property (IP) team from its Cayman office, has also been ranked again as a "highly recommended individual". She is only of only three individuals to earn this level of recognition for work in the Caribbean region out of a total of 35+ experts.
The WTR1000 identifies the leading professionals and firms that are deemed outstanding at obtaining, protecting, managing, enforcing and monetising trade marks. Its latest feedback says Ogier provides "exceptional services and expertise across various specialised fields" and adds: "Their experts adopt a pragmatic and commercial approach, delivering effective IP solutions for businesses of all sizes and at every stage of the IP life cycle."
Sophie has now been individually ranked eight times by World Trademark Review (WTR), having first received the accolade of recommended individual in 2018. The review says she "guides clients through a diverse and sometimes difficult to navigate terrain with her in-depth knowledge."
Sophie said: "I am delighted to be ranked as highly recommended individual but I am lucky to have support from a brilliant team at Ogier, which is why it is so good to see the firm also recognised again as a leading firm once again for its work in the Caribbean for IP."
Sophie is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and MARQUES. She serves on INTA's Country Guides and Trademark Office Practices Committee (Latin America and the Caribbean), and also on the Intellectual Property Steering Group in the Cayman Islands at the invitation of the Minister for Financial Services and Commerce.
Sophie played an integral role in the drafting of The Trade Marks Act, 2016 and accompanying regulations. She has also contributed to a number of publications including the Cayman Financial Review, the Chartered Institute of Trademark Attorneys (CITMA) Review, the INTA Bulletin, Kluwer IP Law’s Managing Industrial Property, SMD Group’s Country Index, Thomson Reuters’ Trademarks Throughout The World, the World Intellectual Property Review and the WTR, among others.
Ogier’s Intellectual Property team acts across the full spectrum of intellectual property rights, including brands and trade marks, copyright, industrial designs and patents, specialising in multi-jurisdictional intellectual property clearance, prosecution, exploitation and enforcement.
