The event was a collaborative initiative led by Ogier's Sports Committee, its Family Network and Diversability employee group to embrace and promote inclusivity, team work and community spirit through adapted sport. More than 100 Ogier colleagues, family members and guests from local charities Beresford Street Kitchen (BSK) and Mencap enthusiastically participated in a fun-packed day.
Inspired by the Paralympic year and the objective to make sporting activities accessible to all, the event showcased the possibility of an active lifestyle regardless of age and ability. Highlights of the day included assisted cycling, boccia, walking football and a sensory obstacle course designed to test teamwork, trust, and communication through a series of challenges.
"Ogier's Inclusive Sport Day was about shining a light on adaptive sports and demonstrating that an active lifestyle is accessible to everyone, irrespective of disability or health conditions," said Sophie Halsey, Ogier's Senior Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisor. "By partnering with local organisations like Jersey Sport, Cycle Without Limits, and the Jersey Football Association, we were able to offer a diverse range of activities that showcased the inclusive sports initiatives available in Jersey. The event underscored the importance of inclusion, both within the community and the workplace, reflecting Ogier's deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)."
For younger guests, the event transformed part of Les Quennevais playing fields into a wonderland of play and creativity. Activities ranged from giant Jenga and Connect 4 to imaginative play dough stations, arts and crafts, face painting and glitter tattoos, ensuring there was entertainment for everyone.
Adding to the festivities, Beresford Street Kitchen, one of the firm's charity partners, offered a stand with a delightful array of snacks and refreshments enhancing the community spirit and engagement throughout the day.
Ogier's Group Legal Chief Operating Officer, James Parker, and his family attended the event and said: "Seeing colleagues, family and community members of all ages and ability come together to enjoy an inclusive sports day was incredibly rewarding. My children and I particularly enjoyed the walking football and boccia events where our competitive sides came out in a fun and friendly atmosphere. It was great to see members from Beresford Street Kitchen and Mencap join us on the day, further enriching the sense of community and belonging. It was a powerful reminder of how sport can unite us and foster connections."
Ogier extends its thanks to everyone who participated in the event, with special appreciation to its employee-led Sports Committee, Family Network, Diversability group; our sports partners Jersey Sport and Jersey Football Association; our charity partners Beresford Street Kitchen and Mencap; plus all volunteers who helped make the day a success.
