Legal 500 praises Ogier's Hong Kong team as "absolute leaders in the space" in its Asia Pacific 2025 guide.

Described by client feedback as a "really strong team in Hong Kong with several market leading partners who link up very well with their other offices in the Caribbean to provide timely and quality advice", Ogier in Hong Kong provides a broad transactional offering specialising in BVI and Cayman law advice to M&A, capital markets, and private equity with a reputation for "strength in depth, responsive, commercial, a well-oiled machine".

Noting its expanding Dispute Resolution practice, which gained new partner Joanne Collett in 2024, Legal 500 feedback rates the team as "one of, if not the most experienced, senior teams" of disputes practitioners in Hong Kong. "Absolute leaders in the space and working on most of the major cases," one client notes. Ogier's "budding private wealth practice" is also recognised.

Practice partner Nicholas Plowman said: "We're extremely proud of our team. Independent recognition of our team's achievements based on market research by Legal 500 and client feedback highlights Ogier's unwavering commitment to providing exceptional legal services across a wide range of sectors."

Among the team's key players, David Nelson is recognised as a Leading Partner for his vast knowledge of debt financing transactions and margin lending.

David joins Ogier's Hong Kong based specialists also ranked as Leading Partners:

  • Nick Plowman, who is recognised for his longstanding expertise in hedge, venture capital, and private equity funds, with a strong emphasis on fund formation.
  • Nathan Powell, Ogier's global head of Corporate who "leads a strong and very capable Corporate team" maintains a broad corporate finance-focused practice, often advising on pre-IPO investments, public and private M&A, and corporate restructuring matters. He is described as "very commercial and knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with"
  • Anthony Oakes, who is noted for his expertise in the full range of debt capital markets mandates involving Islamic, asset, and structured finance.
  • Kate Hodson, distinguished for her focus on sustainable finance and impact investment, particularly active in the Japanese market.
  • Oliver Payne, known as an "excellent strategist" with broad knowledge of breach of fiduciary duty claims, asset tracing, and cross-border insolvency.

Ogier welcomed Joanne Collett in 2024, who brought extensive experience in bond instruments and enforcement actions brought by lenders.

Client testimonials further highlight Ogier's strengths in Hong Kong:

  • Rachel Huang: "One of the lawyers we have worked with the most in recent years. Rachel has extensive experience and outstanding work ability in the field of cross-border financing involving Greater China. She is able to respond to client requirements in a timely manner and provide practical and effective solutions."
  • Justin Davis: "Great litigator, full knowledge of BVI law".

Ogier's team of Key Lawyers also includes Florence Chan, Cecilia Li, Lin Han, Alan Wong, Yuki Yan, Grace Gao and Edwin Gomez, each contributing to the firm's reputation for excellence.
