Ogier supports learning through play at BVI school
Ogier has provided funding to Joyce Samuel Primary School in BVI to enable learning through play.
New facilities include hop-scotch games, a skip-counting caterpillar and staircases labeled with multiplication facts, all of which are being used to encourage students to learn while they play while at school.
The aim is to integrate games in the teaching of Mathematics to help the children gain higher scores and to enable life-long learning.
“There was a need to improve performance in mathematics school-wide,” said the school’s principal, Orlandette Crabbe.
A Math Committee including students, teachers and students contributed ideas to decide what would help most.
“I’m looking forward to fun times being had by the students as they play and practice foundational mathematical concepts all at once,” she said.
Ogier officially adopted Joyce Samuel School in 2010l. Since then the firm has funded a new PA system, multi-media projectors, and a new gardening area.”
“We are very proud to support this award winning school and look forward to working on their future projects,” said Ogier’s practice manager, Decoy Mactavious.
Joyce Samuel Primary School recently won the Primary School of the Year award and its head was named primary Principal of the Year in the BVI’s Stars in Education awards.
