"Forward thinking" Ogier's rankings in Guernsey enhanced in Chambers UK 2025 guide

Ogier's practice in Guernsey boasts a Dispute Resolution team that "gets to the root of the issue", a "highly responsive" Corporate and Finance practice and an "absolutely first-rate" Trusts offering, according to client reviews in the latest Chambers UK Directory.

The 2025 rankings include 14 Guernsey lawyers from across the firm's Corporate, Investment Funds, Dispute Resolution, Property, Employment and Trusts teams. Client feedback praised Ogier for its "knowledgeable and detail-orientated team" and its understanding of its clients' businesses.

In the Corporate and Finance including Investment Funds category, the team "has cross-jurisdictional capabilities, is highly responsive and provides good service". Included in the rankings are partners Bryon Rees, who clients say is "a good technical operator" who "instils confidence"; Richard Sharp, who is "prepared to go the extra mile to deliver for his clients"; Christopher Jones, "the first call for banking and finance work" and "a robust lawyer with a good team that is eager to deliver"; and Paul Chanter, who is "able to problem-solve complex issues" and "has good general corporate and banking knowledge".

The Guernsey Dispute Resolution team is praised for its "good grasp of the insolvency rules and laws", being "adept at getting to the root of the issue and offering innovative, commercial solutions" and bringing a "unique and well-rounded approach to problem solving". Ranked individuals include partner Simon Davies, who is "sharp, strategic and affable, whilst steely when needed". Client feedback says that when it comes to Mathew Newman, "no one knows this area better or is better in developing the right strategy and approach". He also "puts the work in, understands the issues and prepares properly" and has "excellent strategic vision on contentious matters". "Thoughtful and strategic" Sandie Lyne is ranked as Up and Coming, while Associate to Watch Heidi Sandy is newly ranked. Clients describe Heidi as "keen to come up with novel approaches and solutions" and "efficient in trials".

Ogier's "forward-thinking" Guernsey Property team was said to "have a very broad skill set for all the issues" clients have to deal with and makes "good use of technology to drive efficiency". Partner Martyn Baudains "knows the Guernsey market inside-out", and was also described as having "excellent awareness of all matters covered", while "highly personable and commercially aware" senior associate Martín Casas is listed as an Associate to Watch. Client feedback cited him as able to "see the bigger picture" and "make complicated transactions easy".

The Trusts team was branded as "pragmatic, alert to risks and engaging enough to listen to clients in order to carve the most sensible path". As for the partners, "absolutely first-rate" Matt Guthrie was described as "a lateral thinker" who "really goes beyond just the textbook. Innovation is where he really excels and thinks of solutions". He is joined by "great technician" Catherine Moore and Chris Hards, who has "excellent commercial knowledge".

"Consistently strong adviser" Rachel DeSanges, who is head of Employment for Ogier in Guernsey, has "an uncommon ability to genuinely connect with clients who benefit from her extensive experience and strategic awareness". One client especially appreciated Rachel's "prompt responses, as well as her empathy, warmth and kindness", finding her knowledge and professionalism "incredibly reassuring".
