10 February 2025
Jersey

The Vikings are heading to Jersey’s shores again and their latest "invasion" will be perfectly timed to help Jersey Heritage keep families entertained over the February half term.
Professional history reenactors from UK-based Griffin Historical will be "invading" the Maritime Museum as Vikings to deliver an exciting programme of family-friendly activities for young Islanders to enjoy over the week-long break from school.
"Vikings at the Maritime Museum", which is sponsored by Ogier, will take place daily from 17-21 February from 10am to 4pm. The Viking characters will be sharing stories from Norse myths and legends and leading a host of action activities including combats, feuds and duelling. There will also be the opportunity to take a glimpse into everyday Viking life with object handling and expert knowledge.
Kate Kirk, Director of Marketing and Communications at Ogier, said: “Is there a better way to begin Ogier and Jersey Heritage’s programme of family fun events, adventures and activities for 2025 than with ‘Vikings at the Maritime Museum’? Interactive learning through dedicated events provides the younger generation with a valuable opportunity to get excited about learning and discover our Island’s history as part of a fun, family day out. We’re delighted to continue our partnerships with Jersey Heritage for another year, bringing history to life for families.”
The crafts and activities on offer during "Vikings at the Maritime Museum" include:
Nicky Lucas, Jersey Heritage’s Community Events Curator, said: “These fierce Scandinavian traders and sea warriors are always a favourite with families and we can’t wait for them to arrive on our shores for February half term. ‘Vikings at the Maritime Museum’ is always popular with young Islanders, who love the themed crafts and activities, as well as the opportunity to take part in a re-enactment of the Battle of Stamford Bridge, a battle that most historians agree marked the end of the Viking era.”
Usual entry fees apply for "Vikings at the Maritime Museum". Entry is free for Jersey Heritage Members and children under the age of six.
